It is started with the Yamtuan Antah which is the owner of Istana Lama Seri Menanti. He opposed the placement of a British Resident Assistant at Sungai Ujong. He concerned about the British will take over the Sungai Ujong and the area around it.

Captain Tatha, was send to the Sungai Ujong as the British Resident Assistant when the Dato’s Kelana asked help and protect from the British. In 1897, the selection of Yamtuan Antah as the Yamtuan Besar Seri Menanti does not recognize it by Dato’ Kelana because he was in charge since 1897. Yamtuan Antah responded with, not recognize the Dato’s Kelana as the leader of Sungai Ujong.

The battle started between them. With the help of British side, Dato’ Kelana succeed. Yamtuan Antah has to back off to the Bukit Putus. During the battle, the palace was involved.
